About The Position

The Lactation Specialist position at the Health Education Center in Florence, SC, is a PRN (as needed) role focused on providing advanced lactation support and education to both inpatient and outpatient populations, including infants, pregnant, and postpartum mothers. The specialist is expected to maintain a professional image and exhibit excellent customer relations in accordance with the organization's Service Excellence Standards and Core Values. Responsibilities include leading classes for new and expectant mothers, supporting state initiatives such as Birth Comes, Baby Friendly, and Safe Sleep, and actively engaging in staff and physician training. The role requires the ability to work in various settings, including industry, community, telehealth, and classroom environments.

Requirements

• RN, LPN, or related healthcare degree or teaching experience.
• Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS) required within 6 months of hire.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.

Nice To Haves

• International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a preferred certification goal.

Responsibilities

• Provides advanced lactation support and education to inpatient and outpatient populations.
• Leads classes for new and expectant mothers and their families.
• Supports the Baby Friendly initiative and its beliefs and values.
• Interacts with a multidisciplinary team regarding infant/mother concerns.
• Helps new or expectant mothers with necessary resources for breastfeeding success.
• Encourages clinical staff to manage basic breastfeeding concepts.
• Conducts follow-up phone calls to breastfeeding mothers.
• Ensures all documentation is completed timely and accurately.
• Works flexibly as a team to meet the needs of patients and families.

Benefits

• Flexible scheduling primarily Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional nights for classes.
• At least 1 weekend per month; rotating with minor holidays.
