About The Position

Applies skills and knowledge of lactation process to educate patients, families, and health professionals about breast feeding and human lactation. Provides evidence-based breastfeeding support and develops individual care plans for breastfeeding mothers. Leads hospital breastfeeding classes. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $69,700 - $149,900 (Annual Rate). It is the goal of the WHRC to increase women’s access to information about all aspects of their health; provide excellence in the quality and variety of educational materials available for women and their families; encourage and create participatory, women-sensitive health education programming; and offer women a centralized resource for community and health care provider referrals specific to their needs. The Lactation Consultant is a team player who works closely with others and who is flexible in dealing with the changing priorities. S/he/they are a self-reliant individual who synthesizes their clinical knowledge in order to problem-solve, prioritize and facilitate complex transactions in the course of their daily activities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Skill and ability to perform functions commensurate with training and experience as a certified lactation consultant.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients and staff of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Ability to influence others
  • Ability to deliver classroom instruction
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory
  • Thorough knowledge of data collection and documentation methods
  • Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
