About The Position

The Lactation Consultant is responsible for the overall management of the Lactation and Patient Education Program. The consultant coordinates breast pump rentals, facilitation of all childbirth education and lactation related classes, inpatient and outpatient consults, human donor milk program, and provides current oversite of education to antepartum and post-partum mothers, staff, physicians, and the community. The consultant provides direct patient care and works collaboratively with other team members, the physician, and the patient/family to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Ensures breast-feeding support coverage for unit. The incumbent has access to confidential patient information and makes decisions independently and in collaboration with the Clinical Manager/Physician. This individual works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Program
  • LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse or RN - Registered Nurse
  • Certification by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultant Examiner must be completed within one year from hire date
  • Certification in Child Birth Education within 6 months of hire
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 6 months of hire
  • 3-5 years recent and relevant obstetrical clinical experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field preferred
