Job Summary Responsible for providing information and education regarding breastfeeding to patients and families and assists patients with the establishment of lactation. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred
  • Certified Lactation Counselor/Consultant [CLC] - Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice preferred
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant [IBCLC] - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) preferred
  • Lactation consulting 2-3 years preferred
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Providing lactation assessment, planning, education and instruction to patients and family
  • -Identifies and aids in resolution of breastfeeding difficulties, develops care plans with staff to meet individual patient's needs and provides follow-up consultations
  • -Offering post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/Chest feeding, family bonding and planning
  • -Evaluating patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate
  • -Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs
  • -Provides information and education regarding breastfeeding to maternity and NICU staff
