Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Primary Care, which offers family, adolescent, and internal medicine services as well as urgent, general pediatric, and virtual care at nearly 50 clinic locations across central North Carolina. Duke Primary Care Sage Road Pediatrics provides compassionate, expert care for children of all ages. With a dedicated team of 5 board-certified pediatricians, the clinic serves 50 to 75 patients daily, offering services like well-child check-ups, sports and school physicals, immunizations, and care for common illnesses. The clinic also specializes in ongoing care for conditions such as allergies, asthma, and ADHD, with in-clinic testing for hearing, vision, and developmental screenings. Focused on providing personalized care, Duke Primary Care Sage Road Pediatrics ensures a supportive environment for all families, including those with complex health needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, health, nutrition, or related field required.
  • 2 years of experience required.
  • IBCLC Certification by IBLCE (International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners) is required.
  • Excellent teaching, verbal, and written communication skills essential.
  • Experience in teaching 1-to-1 or in small groups.
  • Understanding of diverse cultural, physical, emotional, and psychological response to birthing, lactation, and parenting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides specialized lactation care and support to breastfeeding mothers and infants, developing evidence-based feeding plans tailored to each family's goals.
  • Evaluates breastfeeding effectiveness and implements appropriate interventions and education to address or prevent feeding challenges.
  • Supports mothers whose infants are unable to breastfeed directly, assisting with milk supply management, expression, and safe storage.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary care teams and outpatient IBCLCs to ensure seamless continuity of lactation care during discharge or patient transfers.
  • Educates and empowers patients through individualized instruction and educational materials related to breastfeeding and infant nutrition.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff and healthcare learners, providing mentorship and training to promote evidence-based breastfeeding practices.
  • Maintains current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification and upholds professional standards of practice.
