The incumbent is responsible for general grounds maintenance and upkeep of all areas including the exterior of buildings and roadways. Performs tasks which require mainly physical abilities and effort involving little or no specialized skill or prior work experience. The following tasks are typical of this occupation: loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances; moves supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrows or hand trucks; stacks materials for storage or binning; collects refuse and salvageable materials. Digs, fills, and tamps earth excavations; levels ground using pick, shovel, tamper and rake; shovels concrete and snow; cleans culverts and ditches; cuts trees and brush; operates power lawnmowers; gutter/roof cleaning; carpet/vinyl flooring removal. May be assigned as flagger or fire watch, if trained and certified. Moves and arranges heavy pieces of material, furniture, equipment, and appliances. Spreads sand and deicer on icy roads and walkways; picks up leaves and trash. Duties may include grounds maintenance laborer tasks. May be assigned to assist in the spill response team May be required to obtain and maintain asbestos certification for the purpose of removing asbestos. Performs other related duties as assigned. May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.
