The Laborer is responsible for removing debris from railcars using hand tools and gasoline-operated blowers. This position may also include performing minor inspections as needed, in accordance with AAR, FRA, railroad rules, company policies, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand, walk, grip, reach, kneel, bend, and stoop frequently.
  • Work is primarily conducted outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Assistance is available for heavier lifting as needed.
  • Work Hours: Day shift; may require evening and/or weekend work. Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
  • Equipment Requirements: Must be able to operate gasoline-powered blowers and hand tools safely.
  • Maintenance experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English fluently and professionally.
  • Outdoor work environment with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Must adhere to all safety protocols while working in an active railyard.
  • Must have sufficient vision to observe areas needing attention.
  • Ability to hear and understand verbal instructions and environmental sounds.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintenance experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Remove debris from railcars using designated tools and equipment.
  • Conduct minor inspections in compliance with AAR, FRA, and company policies.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Operate gasoline-powered blowers and hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Assist team members as needed to meet operational goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
