Our service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities including the greater St. Louis area Job Description Position(s): 5 Hourly Rate Range: $24.15 Revision Date: 3/10/2009 Area/Div: 1209 DUTIES: Under direct but not constant supervision, and working on a rotating or day shift schedule as required, to perform a variety of general labor and cleaning work in and about a generating station, on power plant equipment in operating areas and shops. To do such work in connection with operating, construction, repair, or maintenance of generating station property, including some use of electrical and air powered tools, operating sump pumps; to work at times on or about jobs involving scaffolding and platform work, and the use of hoisting and rigging methods; and to do similar and less skilled work as assigned. In this connection to perform details of work such as: Patch roads, cut grass, weeds and brush; spot spray weed killer and do other general yard/property cleaning. Operate air hammers and jack hammers in breaking up concrete, and other plant materials. Occasionally do sandblasting and charge sandblasting equipment. Dig and back fill trenches. Move furniture, paint, sweep and clean floors, clean handrails, empty trash and operate trash compactor. Remove accumulations of snow and/or ice. Spread salt or other materials on slippery traffic areas. Clean sump pits, settling basins, coal handling areas, oil reservoirs and screen wash accumulations, which includes operation of sump pumps. Transfer some chemicals to storage bins and hoppers, which include unloading various chemicals from freight carriers. This includes handling materials by moving bags, using wheelbarrows, etc. Haul heavy material, including drums of oil and waste oil; scrap material and dispose of trash. Clean up spills including asbestos containing materials and other hazardous material when adequately trained. Clean external surfaces of boiler, turbine, power plant auxiliaries, switchgear housing externals and control boards. This may require the use of solvents for cleaning. Erect forms and mix, pour, and do rough float finishing on concrete. Drive vehicles, including stake bed and pickup trucks, cars, vans, fork trucks, and other comparable motorized equipment. Load and unload vehicles. SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As directed, for proper care of tools, such as sledge hammer, shovel, wheelbarrow and jack hammer, to the extent of proper handling during use and of restoring them to proper place at close of work. For exercising all safety precautions as directed, so as not to endanger self or fellow employees or to disrupt operation of equipment while working around operating equipment or equipment that is subject to start. May be required to work in a relief capacity in other groups, when qualified to do so. Such relief work may involve rotating or alternating shifts, weekends or various combinations of hours not considered to be straight days. Responsible for proper sampling and disposal of waste oil. Responsible for proper drying of fire hoses, including operating hoists. Responsible for satisfactory participation in training activities.
