About The Position

The Laborer in the non-potable water division obtains daily readings from various stations, daily inspections and assists system operators with preventive maintenance. Additional duties may include performing work on pumps, valves, sprinklers, mowing grass, maintaining pump station sites and other related job duties. This is a seasonal assignment and may work up to 40 hours per week for approximately 1,040 hours or up to 6 months, whichever occurs first.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current driver's license with good driving record (MVR and background check required)
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment, lawn mowing and sprinklers
  • Must be able to work weekends if needed.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work independently, along with and/or in groups.
  • Ability to properly use hand and power tools to maintain facility.
  • Ability to accurately input, retrieve, and verify work assignments.
  • Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, and general public.
  • Computer skills, Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and the ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
  • Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with pump maintenance preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains daily readings from various stations

  • Learn job-related skills through oral or written instruction
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding instructions in English on a computer screen required
  • Interprets information on a computer screen and follows sequence of repair information
  • Follows established safety practices and procedures
  • Must be able to work weekends if needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
