About The Position

Works under direct supervision to perform physical labor of an unskilled nature, generally in an outside location at the Roads & Bridges Department. Pay Grade: 41H Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Requirements

Two (2) years of work experience, preferably in an outdoor environment
Tenth (10) grade education.
PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Ability to work as directed and follow oral instructions.
Physical ability to perform assigned work tasks.
Ability to learn simple techniques from reasonable instructions
Ability to cooperate with other personnel.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
Must pass a physical examination.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 90 lbs.
Must submit to and pass drug and alcohol screening.
Must work in inclement weather, i.e. snow, flooding, ice, and high winds.
Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by date of employment.

Responsibilities

Perform unskilled labor of a manual nature.
Assists in construction and maintenance.
Pours/sets concrete; shovels and spreads asphalt, limestone, and rock occasionally.
Patches roads using asphalt.
Operates spreader box on trucks.
Operates non-complex equipment; assists with pile-driving operations. and rock.
Bring supplies and equipment to labor sites.
Assists with pile driving operating, setting concrete and metal pipes, and laying pipes.
Assists with ditches and operating a tractor/mower on right-of-way cutting.
Acts as an essential worker to respond to emergencies.
Performs other related duties as required or directed.
