About The Position

Works under direct supervision to perform physical labor of an unskilled nature, generally in an outside location at the Roads & Bridges Department. Pay Grade: 41H Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of work experience, preferably in an outdoor environment
  • Tenth (10) grade education.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Ability to work as directed and follow oral instructions.
  • Physical ability to perform assigned work tasks.
  • Ability to learn simple techniques from reasonable instructions
  • Ability to cooperate with other personnel.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 90 lbs.
  • Must submit to and pass drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must work in inclement weather, i.e. snow, flooding, ice, and high winds.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by date of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform unskilled labor of a manual nature.
  • Assists in construction and maintenance.
  • Pours/sets concrete; shovels and spreads asphalt, limestone, and rock occasionally.
  • Patches roads using asphalt.
  • Operates spreader box on trucks.
  • Operates non-complex equipment; assists with pile-driving operations. and rock.
  • Bring supplies and equipment to labor sites.
  • Assists with pile driving operating, setting concrete and metal pipes, and laying pipes.
  • Assists with ditches and operating a tractor/mower on right-of-way cutting.
  • Acts as an essential worker to respond to emergencies.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
