About The Position

Performs a variety of routine, repetitive manual tasks not requiring the continuous performance of a mechanical or trade skill; and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school.

Responsibilities

Loads, moves, and unloads dirt, materials, supplies and equipment, excavates with pick, shovel, and other hand tools; backfills holes and ditches
Spreads materials for road patching and paving; cleans culverts, cuts grass, widens ditches and clears off rubbish
Sprays solutions for killing weeds; may operate small power mower
Sweeps streets
Sets out flags and lanterns to mark off construction areas
Clears storm drains of rubbish and rocks
Burns rubbish at public dump and keeps area orderly
Heats asphalt for road patching
May check trucks and other equipment for oil, gas, and water
May occasionally help tradesmen by performing heavy manual work in lifting and carrying building tools and materials
Carries rocks and materials and mixes cement and mortar for the construction of sidewalks, curbing, stone walls, roadways, storm drains and bridges
Performs other related duties as required.
