About The Position

To set up and operate Tape Controlled Lathe, Conventional Lathe, Post Mill or Milling Machine for production of rolls, shafts, etc. The position involves receiving numerical tape programs, work orders, prints and instructions from the Foreman, locating work pieces, and directing the Crane man in positioning pieces in the machine. The operator will set up machines for various size rolls, adjust machine settings, and perform various machining operations to meet dimensional specifications and tolerances. Additionally, the role includes performing laborer duties such as removing scrap, transporting tools, and maintaining a clean working area.

Requirements

• Experience operating Tape Controlled Lathe, Conventional Lathe, Post Mill, or Milling Machine.
• Ability to read and interpret numerical tape programs and work orders.
• Familiarity with machining operations and tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Physical ability to perform laborer duties including lifting and moving materials.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a manufacturing or machining environment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Tape Controlled Lathe, Conventional Lathe, Post Mill or Milling Machine.
• Receive numerical tape programs, work orders, prints, and instructions from Foreman.
• Locate work pieces and direct Crane man in positioning pieces in the machine.
• Set up machine for various size rolls by adjusting tail stock, head stock jaws, and roll clamping.
• Operate machine tools, adjusting stops, feeds, speeds, and numerical tape controls.
• Check and record forging or roll dimensions, stock, and run out.
• Perform straight and taper turning, boring, threading, facing, drilling, tapping, reaming, and mill work.
• Use calipers, micrometers, scales, gauges, etc., to check for finish sizes.
• Clean, lubricate, and make minor adjustments or replacements to the machine.
• Perform general labor duties such as removing scrap and cleaning.
• Transport or handle tools, shop supplies, and lubricants using wheelbarrow or crane service.
• Load and unload trucks, either manually or using crane service.
