Role Overview The Laboratory Testing Technician will perform a variety of materials testing and geotechnical analyses to support major infrastructure, transportation and construction projects in the Glasgow, KY region. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on lab work, is detail oriented, and is eager to work on impactful projects without needing a 4-year degree.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Ability to follow established testing procedures, maintain accurate records, and learn new testing standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple test assignments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory environment (standing for extended periods, relatively heavy sample handling, wearing protective equipment).
  • Basic PC skills (Microsoft Office, data entry) and ability to learn lab software or data management systems.
  • Ability to follow written test standards and instructions accurately; ability to learn and apply new procedures.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to work under direction as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or coursework in construction materials testing, geology, civil engineering technology or related field preferred , but not required .
  • Prior experience in a materials testing / geotechnical laboratory environment is a plus, but entry-level candidates with strong willingness to learn will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct standardized materials tests (soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, etc.) in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO and client/agency specifications.
  • Perform geotechnical laboratory tasks such as moisture content, Atterberg limits, gradation, compaction, unconfined compressive strength, and similar tests.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, record and document test results, and ensure data integrity and traceability.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory logs, test reports, and data entry into project documentation systems.
  • Assist field sampling personnel and collaborate with field technicians to ensure representative samples and chain of custody.
  • Follow safety protocols and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures to meet industry and client standards.
  • Work under supervision but be self-motivated to keep the lab workflow moving and meet project deadlines.
