About The Position

Pediatric Associates, founded in 1955 in Hollywood, FL, is a leading provider of pediatric care, dedicated to creating a medical home for children across the nation. The Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in this mission by performing essential laboratory testing procedures across various disciplines, including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology, and Spirometry. This position is vital for ensuring accurate and timely laboratory results that support the healthcare team in delivering high-quality care to pediatric patients. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting phlebotomy procedures, which include venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks, specifically tailored for patients ranging from newborns to young adults aged 18 or 20 years. In addition to performing tests, the technician must report laboratory results to healthcare clinicians, alert them of any critical or out-of-range values, and document these critical reports accurately. The role also involves preparing specimens for reference lab send-outs, ensuring that all labeling, resulting, and billing information is correct and complete. Quality control is a significant aspect of the Laboratory Technician's responsibilities. The technician must perform and document daily, weekly, and monthly quality control checks, including instrument maintenance, to ensure the reliability of laboratory results. Maintaining an adequate inventory of lab supplies, reordering, and stocking supplies is also part of the job. The technician may have opportunities to cross-train and assist Medical Assistants, enhancing the collaborative environment within the Pediatric Associates Family of Companies.
