About The Position

Job Purpose Perform required sampling at the Generation site, analyze samples, and adjust chemicals as needed. Specific Responsibilities Perform required sampling at the Generation site, including but not limited to: Daily coal, fly ash, and bottom ash samples. Daily boiler water, feedwater, and condensate samples and make the required chemical corrections to maintain water chemistry in established ranges. Coal pulverizers, including coal fineness tests on samples to monitor grind efficiency. Wastewater samples to ensure compliance with State and Federal agencies. Flue Gas Desulphurization process samples to ensure proper operation. Operate, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on various systems and equipment throughout the Generation site, including: Laboratory equipment Unit 9 demineralizer Reverse Osmosis system On-line analyzers located throughout all units Wastewater treatment plant equipment, analyzers, chlorination/dichlorination system, and associated chlorine and sulfur dioxide gas sensors Other Responsibilities Maintain a culture of safety within the department. Support the Utility's safety programs, complete training appropriate for the position, and provide safe working conditions and practices. Maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the department. Utilize lean principles and other continuous improvement tools in an effort to maximize the efficiency of the department. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of high school chemistry.
  • Strong background in math and applied science.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all audiences, including customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere.
  • Proficiency with use of computers and mobile devices, including email, calendar, Internet browsers, and the Microsoft Office suite of products at a basic level.

  • Must be able to attend work on a regular basis and work overtime as needed.
  • Must maintain a method of communication in order to be contacted by MP&W outside normal work hours.
  • Must comply with all safety and site rules at all locations.
