About The Position

The Abel Lab is hiring a full-time Laboratory Technician within the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. This person would perform a variety of laboratory duties in a cancer research laboratory focused on transcription factors and gene expression. Tissue culture, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, as well as Western blotting and bacterial culture techniques would be the primary laboratory duties. Additionally, working with mice (tumor implantation/excision, drug treatment, health monitoring, euthanasia) will be required. This individual would also aid in the maintenance of the laboratory, assisting with placing orders and maintaining laboratory materials and equipment. This individual will also be responsible for conducting grant-funded research projects and must have high-level critical thinking skills and be able to independently drive a project with minimal-to-moderate oversight. The starting annual compensation for this position is $40,413 and this includes a full comprehensive benefits package.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field; or
  • Associate’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time laboratory experience; or
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time laboratory experience.
  • NOTE: Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Nice To Haves

  • BS or MS degree in Biological Sciences (or a related field) with laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency in varied laboratory techniques, like those mentioned above.
  • Experience working with mice, particularly conducting preclinical studies.
  • Bioinformatic/data-mining skills.
