Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory sterile technique.
  • Good documentation skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and set own schedule to meet experiment deadlines.
  • Strong basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in rearing insects and/or aseptic tissue culture highly desirable.
  • Experience working with quality systems and SOPs desirable.
  • Interest in malaria vaccinology is highly desired.
  • Advanced or additional experience with PowerPoint, statistical software, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and database management is a preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entomology scientific support through vaccine product assessment through performing mosquito-parasite assays, membrane feeding assays, maintain several mosquito colonies using established rearing procedures, perform mosquito dissections, and maintain parasites in culture for vaccine candidate assessment.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments in electronic laboratory notebooks, note minor modifications or adaptations used in established methods, procedures, and techniques to solve problems. Analyze data collected from experiments using established procedures.
  • Perform a wide variety of immunology procedures in support of malaria vaccine discovery including tissue culture, serological assays, ELISA, and liquid chromatography.
  • Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory equipment to perform tests and analysis including but not limited to microscopes, balances, plate readers, spectrophotometers, and pH meters.
  • Write reports to state findings from experimental data. Organize data and findings into a format acceptable for publication in high impact scientific journals.
  • Work products and documents related to maintain accurate, daily records of experiments in an electronic laboratory notebook, supporting malaria vaccine product assessment efforts through performing mosquito-parasite membrane feeding assays, mosquito rearing, dissections, and exvivo parasite culturing.
  • Work products and documentation performing a variety of immunological procedures including tissue cultures, serological assays, ELISA, and column chromatography, and related to calibration and operation of a variety of laboratory equipment.
  • Work products and documentation related to writing reports of findings, state methods and procedures, identify modifications to procedures, specimens used, and results of experiments, analysis of results, evaluation and discussing the results from experiments with other members of the lab and the Federal Task Lead.
  • Perform preparing stock solutions, media preparations, stocking supplies, and preparation of buffers for laboratory experiments.
  • Use MS Office suite of software to analyze data to organize experimental data into a format suitable for publication into a scientific journal.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
