The Laboratory Technician for the Textiles Team at UL, LLC is responsible for setting up and performing tests on textile samples, ensuring accurate evaluations and reporting of results. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with engineers and management, as well as the ability to adapt testing setups based on specific requirements. The position is fully onsite at the RTP facility in Raleigh, North Carolina, and involves routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and adherence to defined test plans.

  • Set up and perform equipment and test setups for clients.
  • Build and adapt setup and test equipment for performance of tests.
  • Examine test samples and read blueprints, schematics, and operational instructions.
  • Follow defined test plans and datasheets.
  • Evaluate test performance and sample operation to assess results accurately.
  • Record and explain test results and complete test reports.
  • Adapt test equipment setups based on engineering instructions.
  • Operate designated machines and special laboratory equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance of test equipment and laboratory area.
  • Conduct basic calibration of test equipment as needed.
  • Understand specific test standards and testing technology with supervision.
  • Initiate recommendations for new equipment designs and solutions to test problems.
  • Communicate with management and technical staff to suggest improvements.
  • Higher Secondary Education plus related experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proven ability to be innovative and creative.
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.
  • Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.
