About The Position

The Laboratory Technician at the Narragansett Bay Commission is responsible for conducting routine chemical and biological testing to support plant and field operations. This role involves sample receipt, preservation, and adherence to chain of custody protocols, while ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory guidelines. The technician will also maintain laboratory equipment, record test results, and provide training to other personnel.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year technical college degree program in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or environmental science or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of analytical testing and sampling techniques as applied to wastewater collection, processing, and discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine chemical and biological testing in support of plant/field operations.
  • Receipt and preservation of samples, ensuring adherence to chain of custody protocols.
  • Conduct various tests on samples such as TSS, BOD, Chloride, Fecal, and nitrites.
  • Set up, maintain, and calibrate laboratory testing and sampling equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and a computer database of all laboratory tests and activities.
  • Interact with other departments regarding laboratory requirements and status of work.
  • Train and guide other personnel involved in sample taking and testing procedures.
  • Be available for emergency call-ins and work weekends/holidays on a rotating basis.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $27.75 - $36.41 per hour, starting at $27.75.
  • Bargaining unit agreement benefits through Laborers' International Local 1033.
