This is a contract only role for 9-12+ months This position will lead other laboratory personnel while executing standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for manufacturing and support research and development (R&D) at our laboratory in Houston, Texas. The Laboratory Technician III performs tasks of low to intermediate complexity while supervising other laboratory personnel. Their primary responsibility will be manufacturing reagent products. Secondly, they will play a supporting role in larger products, taking direction from the production supervisor, scientists, and engineers.

Requirements

  • Understanding of fundamental biochemical concepts (e.g., nucleic acid structure, replication, pH, etc.)
  • Ability to follow procedures and protocols
  • Ability to interpret procedures to resolve minor problems and propose improvements, as needed
  • Ability to apply safety standards and good lab practices
  • Knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with other professionals within the company and clients, as needed
  • Ability to apply introductory statistical concepts such as mean, variance, and t-tests
  • Ability to perform manual pipetting, and other dexterous tasks, for extended periods of time
  • Must produce accurate and legible records
  • High attention to detail and organization
  • Must maintain confidentiality as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Microsoft Word, and Power Point
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, repetitive motions and eye/hand coordination
  • Ability to work in environmental conditions typical in office and/or laboratory environments
  • Ability to don and wear aseptic processing garments, eye protection, and a mask for extended periods
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ideal candidates must have at least two to four years of relevant experience and/or training

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with good manufacturing practices is preferred
  • Aseptic processing experience and/or wet laboratory experience is preferred
  • Experience in laboratory methods/techniques associated with molecular biology (e.g., PCR, qPCR, next-generation sequencing, SNP arrays, DNA extractions, capillary electrophoresis: Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis, integrated laboratory information management systems)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise other lab technicians and operators while leading production activities
  • Organize day-to-day activities according to the production schedule
  • Execute a range of SOP’s to perform detailed manufacturing tasks independently and in a timely manner
  • Execute routine quality control inspections independently according to procedure
  • Perform complex molecular-based protocols with a high degree of quality
  • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in applicable procedures
  • Accurately record production and test records according to good documentation practices
  • Analyze results and provide feedback
  • Report failures and deviations from processes
  • Receive, inspect, stock, and organize production inventory and laboratory supplies
  • Routinely clean laboratory rooms and equipment
  • Perform routine lab maintenance (e.g., weekly/monthly/annual equipment maintenance)
  • Support experienced personnel on projects such as product, process, and test method development
  • Execute equipment and process qualifications under the direction of experienced staff
  • Perform clerical tasks associated with laboratory function, including but not limited to: preparation/documentation of production records, maintaining samples, and preparation of experiment data and/or reports
  • Participate in the review of procedures, instructions, and protocols
  • Assist in maintaining standard operating procedures, method sheets, and production forms
  • Assist in the creation of technical documents for reagents and equipment
  • Participate in quality investigations to resolve process and product issues
  • Work with R&D to resolve failures and make improvements
  • Participate in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions
  • Comply with all standard operating procedures, quality assurance, safety, and regulatory procedures
  • Comply with all corporate regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Perform other duties as directed by management or project lead
