About The Position

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to, under general supervision, provides technical and other computer/clerical support related to the accessioning and client service functions of an outreach reference laboratory. Performs a variety of triaging tasks related to receiving and processing client specimens through to Iowa Health Care laboratories for complex testing in an efficient manner. Act as a liaison with clients and laboratory staff to coordinate specimen preparation, transport, and complex testing. This position is 100%-time, Monday- Friday from 0800-1700. Requirements

  • High school plus two years of related laboratory experience, including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
  • Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
  • Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.

Nice To Haves

  • MLA(ASCP) certification or eligible.
  • Biological science coursework, i.e. Anatomy, Biology, etc…
  • Familiarity with UIHC policies and procedures
  • Healthcare experience
  • Customer Service experience

Responsibilities

  • Registers patients and accessions, handles, and triages specimens sent by clients destined for UIHC laboratories.
  • Maintains the work environment.
  • Answers the telephone and responds to email requests demonstrating effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates time management skills
  • Performs other projects and tasks as assigned
