The position is on-site and located at our Lake Elsinore, CA office. As an experienced materials testing professional, you will be responsible for performing routine to moderately complex laboratory testing in accordance with applicable ASTM, AASHTO, and project-specific requirements. In this role, you'll support laboratory operations through accurate testing, specimen processing, equipment maintenance, and adherence to quality and safety standards. Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a construction materials testing laboratory
  • Demonstrated experience performing concrete compression testing and reinforcing steel testing
  • Working knowledge of applicable ASTM and AASHTO testing standards
  • Ability to accurately follow written procedures and standards
  • Basic computer skills (data entry, laboratory logs, email)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Ability to lift and handle specimens and equipment (up to approximately 50 lbs)
  • May require overtime or flexible scheduling based on project demands

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications (ACI, ICC, Caltrans, or equivalent), or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
  • Experience working under a formal laboratory quality system (AASHTO, ISO, CCRL/AMRL)
  • Familiarity with laboratory management software or electronic reporting systems

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with laboratory management, field staff, and project teams
  • Assist with training or mentoring Laboratory Technician I staff as assigned
  • Support laboratory workload demands, including schedule flexibility as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations
  • Perform concrete compressive strength testing in accordance with ASTM C39
  • Conduct reinforcing steel testing, including tensile, bend, and related tests in accordance with applicable ASTM standards (e.g., ASTM A370)
  • Prepare, process, and properly identify incoming samples and specimens
  • Ensure specimens are cured, stored, and tested in accordance with applicable standards and laboratory procedures
  • Receive, log, label, and track incoming samples using laboratory information systems or logs
  • Verify sample integrity and report discrepancies or nonconformances to laboratory supervision
  • Maintain proper chain-of-custody and documentation for all specimens
  • Clean, maintain, and organize laboratory and field sampling equipment
  • Assist with routine calibration checks and equipment verification under supervision
  • Identify malfunctioning or damaged equipment and report issues promptly
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly laboratory environment
  • Perform all work in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, CCRL/AMRL, AASHTO R18, and internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
  • Accurately document test data, observations, and results
  • Follow laboratory safety protocols, including proper use of PPE
  • Support internal audits, inspections, and corrective actions as needed
