About The Position

Specific responsibilities of this position include: Assist professors in beginning apparel construction classes (FSHD140 Principles of Apparel Construction and FSHD230 Advanced Apparel Construction). Assist professors in textile classes (FSHN120 Consumer Textiles, FSHN254 Advanced Textiles, and FSHD355 Fabric Structure and Design) as needed. At the start of each semester, ensure all design studio and textile classrooms are fully operational with all equipment in working order. Maintain equipment daily. Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all design studio and textile classrooms according to established standards and procedures. Purchase supplies and equipment for design and textile classes, maintain inventory, and re-order as needed. Maintain efficient operation of laboratory equipment in two design studios and two textile classrooms. Provide regular ongoing support for the Costume and Textiles Resource Center including collection upkeep and organization. Maintain co-departmental petty cash. Assist faculty and staff with special projects as needed. This position is generally governed by the Laboratory Technician classification specifications.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in related work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
  • Substitutions: I. An Associate's degree or higher in a related field may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. II. The successful completion of one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, education toward a degree in a related field may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. III. The successful completion of training in a recognized school course in textile science or technologies may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

  • This is a 30-hour/week, 40-week/year (September-May), benefits-eligible position in the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining unit.
