About The Position

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency’s mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the - F/C OPS within the Clinical Unit. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of experience in laboratory work.
  • College education from an accredited institution or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, label, process, store, and ship specimens in accordance with the specifications of reference laboratories and standards for infection control.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work areas with established standards for infection control.
  • Process all laboratory requests with accuracy and distribute results of testing promptly to the requesting physician/clinician.
  • Order, stock, and maintain supplies and inventory to provide continuous support for laboratory activities.
  • Collect admission lab work on admission as resident status allows or within seven days of admission.
  • Perform specimen collections requiring special considerations in accordance with the specifications of reference laboratories and institutional protocols.
  • Keep supervisor informed of activities, pertinent issues, and potential problems.
  • Participate in pertinent clinic meetings and other committees or project teams as indicated.
  • Perform routine EKGs as requested by medical services in a timely manner.
  • Run new lab results daily and process according to protocols.
  • Provide coverage responsibilities in clinic for the clinic assistant/clinic front desk and assist the primary care physician as needed.
  • Treat all residents with respect and ensure they are afforded dignity while in the clinic area.
  • Observe established work hours and schedule leave in a manner that minimizes work disruption.
  • Complete work on time and demonstrate a willingness and ability to adapt to changes in work assignments and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
