LOCATION: Koppel - Pennsylvania  - USA  DEPARTMENT: QUALITY  Entity/Department: Tenaris Bay City, Inc. Location: Koppel, PA MAIN RESPONSIBILITES: Perform analysis in the mechanical and metallographic laboratory supporting our heat treatment and rolling mill facilities. Follow and control the production process, ensuring the accomplishment of production programs/schedule according to products' specifications, customer needs and Tenaris quality standards. Assist in the resolution of problems detected in internal and external claims. Verify the application and development of applicable standards and procedures. Report sample/test results and compare to applicable ISO and ASTM international standard specifications. Generate lab activity reporting and KPIs. Elaborate charts and graphs in power BI to provide visuals of data. Assist in the management of special samples and trials for different laboratories. Provide specialized assistance in the area of expertise. Identify opportunities for improvement of laboratory processes and propose preventive and corrective actions. Verify the application and development of safety standards. Gather and compile data and results during the calibration process in the available IT tool, check against applicable specifications and prepare calibrations reports. Assist in the analysis of new suppliers of calibration tooling and equipment. Ensure that laboratories have all the necessary consumables to avoid stopping the production process. Assist in the training and recertification of shop floor technicians in all lab techniques. Assist in the elaboration of Purchase requisitions, Purchase orders, Service entry sheets for services and materials and in the codification of materials used on a daily basis. Perform calibration of Tensile testers, Rockwell B and C hardness tester as well as the calibration of the CVN impact tester. Design analytical curves and methods through the Tensile test for strip and round specimens and impact test for full size and sub size. Identify areas for preparation of metallographic analysis that helps the decision making for failure analysis, analysis of defects, grain size, etc. Use of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays in case of emergency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Engineering.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a related occupation working in a metallographic laboratory for the steel manufacturing industry performing each of the following: Evaluation of ferritic and austenitic grain size in steel samples; Counting of ferrite-perlite phase; Evaluation of non-metallic inclusions, decarburization depth, and microstructure in steel samples; performing jomini testing for steel samples and characterization of fracture surface; failure analysis using the Scanning Electron Microscope; performing tensile, hardness and impact testing in steel samples.
  • Requires up to 20% domestic and international travel to conduct benchmarking with other Tenaris facilities, perform audits of third party suppliers, support other facilities performing metallographic analysis with the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and conduct training in the different metallographic analysis.
