About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine chemical and biological analyses according to instructions. The technician works under direct supervision and follows standard techniques for weighing chemicals, mixing solutions, cleaning glassware, diluting samples and calculating test results.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with one year of algebra and some college preferred.
  • One year of analytical laboratory experience.
  • Must possess a general knowledge of laboratory practices and techniques.
  • Capable of keeping records to comply with state and federal regulations governing laboratory operations.
  • Ability to make responsible decisions as required by circumstances.
  • High mathematical ability with careful attention to detail required.
  • The ability to deal tactfully and effectively with employees and representatives of other organizations.
  • This position requires passing a physical and physical ability assessment specific to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic laboratory tests such as suspended solids, biochemical oxygen demand, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia phosphorous and minerals.
  • Prepares chemicals necessary to run the routine tests.
  • Cleans, maintains and stores laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Prepares a log of all incoming samples.
  • Maintains Quality Control files and performs mathematical calculations on a daily basis.
  • Prepares orders for supplies and reagents as necessary to maintain proper stock.
  • Maintains laboratory instrumentation to comply with state and federal laboratory certification.
  • Employees assigned to this position are classified as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to report to work when scheduled during departmental and/or emergency situations including, but not limited to, extended periods of inclement weather when travel may be difficult. This position is essential because in the absence of sufficient personnel, the plant cannot operate safely.
