About The Position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Core Laboratory Services and Response (DCLSR), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA. SCOPE OF WORK The Laboratory Technician I will provide support for non-research biological science work to the Specimen Triage and Tracking Laboratory. The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, basic medical science, or environmental laboratory science, or
  • 2-5 years of equivalent experience
  • Experience working with established SOPs across molecular and microbiologist techniques.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the preparation of memos and reports.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.

  • Previous experience working in a similar role.
  • Previous experience with "chain of custody" materials and transfers.
  • Experience modifying methods based upon evaluation of research results.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience writing project reports, research protocols and manuscripts.
  • Specific detailed knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements, handling of clinical specimens, and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of documentation for equipment calibration and validation.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and inventory software functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-research biological science work or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
  • Perform recurring, well-precedent standard lab techniques. Performs and monitors the full range of specialized tests and non-routine procedures for which there are standard methods and techniques.
  • Ensure proper collection of data and adjustment methods and procedure as appropriate during the course of the supporting general lab duties.
  • Package entry and specimen accessioning.
  • Follow up and resolve discrepancies, contact customers and update required logs.
  • Conduct file accessioning, including labeling and sorting or specimens.
  • Monitor and record freezers and eyewash stations.
  • General lab maintenance and cleaning:
  • Assist with ensuring that incoming specimens are processed and triaged maintaining "chain-of-custody."
  • Prepares routine reports and apply knowledge of the technical rules and procedures to document and prepare analyses and reports.
