About The Position
The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Chemistry is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our team. This full-time position offers a competitive salary of $55,000 per year, depending on qualifications. The Laboratory Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the chemistry department by preparing and maintaining the chemical inventory, ordering necessary chemicals and equipment, and preparing solutions for all chemistry courses offered at UTPB. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory instructional equipment, ensuring the safety of the laboratory environment, and providing essential support to faculty and students during laboratory experiments. In this role, the Laboratory Technician will be tasked with preparing and maintaining the chemical inventory for the laboratory, ordering chemicals, equipment, and supplies as needed, and preparing solutions and chemicals for all chemistry courses. Additionally, the Technician will maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring its proper function, and provide support to faculty and students during laboratory experiments. A critical aspect of this position is ensuring laboratory safety and compliance with OSHA and hazardous material regulations, which is paramount in a laboratory setting. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in chemistry and have at least two years of experience working in a laboratory environment. Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, equipment, and instrumentation is essential, along with the ability to manage chemical inventory and order necessary supplies. Familiarity with OSHA and hazardous material regulations is also required. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in chemistry or a related field, experience in managing an academic laboratory stockroom, and excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in basic computer skills and software programs are also highly valued.
