About The Position

As a Laboratory Technician – Asphalt & Aggregate Testing, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and compliance of materials used in a high-priority DoD-funded runway and base construction project. Working across both laboratory and field environments, you will perform testing, analysis, and reporting to ensure all materials meet UFGS specifications, ASTM/AASHTO standards, and project mix designs. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on technician who thrives in high-volume production environments and is interested in full lifecycle exposure to asphalt and aggregate operations.

Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of experience in asphalt and/or aggregate laboratory testing
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM and AASHTO testing methods
  • Experience working with hot mix asphalt (HMA) production preferred
  • Ability to work in both field and laboratory environments

Responsibilities

  • Collect material samples including aggregates, RAP, HMA, and bitumen
  • Perform field testing including temperature checks, moisture content, and visual inspections
  • Ensure proper labeling and maintain chain-of-custody procedures
  • Conduct QC/QA testing including gradation, Rice, Marshall, and ignition oven testing
  • Perform calculations including air voids, VMA, and VFA
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency across all test procedures
  • Record and track all test data in accordance with project requirements
  • Prepare quality control reports and summaries
  • Maintain equipment calibration logs and testing records
  • Monitor production trends and identify potential quality issues
  • Support mix design verification processes
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
  • Ensure adherence to ASTM, AASHTO, and UFGS standards
