About The Position

Under general supervision, process samples, set up microbiologic assays for the detection of pathogenic bacteria; set up fecal floatation samples for the detection of avian parasites; perform data entry, results entry, and order tests with laboratory information management system (LIMS); and perform routine laboratory maintenance duties such as autoclaving biohazardous waste, restocking supplies, making reagents/media, and general preventative maintenance on equipment. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved course for laboratory assistants OR two years of chemical, or clinical or public health laboratory experience.
  • Training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences may be substituted, year for year, for experience. Course approved by American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
  • Ability to work overtime and rotate on holidays, if necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of microbiology lab experience
  • Familiarity with veterinary medicine
  • Experience with medical or laboratory database
  • Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens
