Under the direction of the Medical Technologist, the Lab Technical Assistant is responsible for performing preparatory portions of laboratory tests within scope of practice under Tennessee Medical Laboratory Act. Procedures are performed in the assigned Laboratory areas, such as Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, or Microbiology. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. A Brief Overview Under the direction of the Medical Technologist, the Lab Technical Assistant is responsible for performing preparatory portions of laboratory tests within scope of practice under Tennessee Medical Laboratory Act. Procedures are performed in the assigned Laboratory areas, such as Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, or Microbiology. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Performs pre analytical and post analytical portions of laboratory tests within scope of practice under Tennessee Medical Laboratory Act.
  • Performs clerical duties as required.
  • Maintains inventory and stocking of supplies and equipment in the laboratory areas according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality assurance, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, safety, competency, and policies and procedures.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Technical Degree or Diploma
  • Phlebotomy
  • Currently enrolled in a college program Medical Technology
  • 1-3 years Laboratory
  • No prior work experience
  • Strong knowledge of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge in laboratory quality assurance procedures.
  • Demonstrates effective teamwork.
  • Strong attention to detail skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrates quality customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and other outside professionals.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others' work flow.
