About The Position

Overview RiverView Health, is a community owned, membership based non-profit organization that was formed in 1898 and continues to be the sole community hospital in Crookston, MN. RiverView Health operates a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital, RiverView Recovery Center; a chemical dependency outpatient treatment program, RiverView Home Care and five primary care and specialty clinics in the hospitals service area. RiverView is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. Responsibilities Laboratory Technical Assistant/Phlebotomist - full-time (64 hours every 2 weeks). Schedule: Full-Time (.8 fte) - 64 hours per pay period Scheduled Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; may support lab on weekends as needed. Pay Range: $18.82 - $26.35 / hr (based on experience) Job Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly, benefitted position This position supports all Riverview Health patient care areas. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, collecting, preparing and processing specimens biological specimens. Assists in performing laboratory activities and other assigned tasks. Aids in preparing laboratory specimens and supplies. May be responsible for entering laboratory orders and results. Ensures the accuracy and quality of laboratory data in a safe and professional work environment. Perform supportive laboratory functions. Serve patients by registering patients for laboratory testing, preparing specimens for laboratory testing and perform screening procedures. Responsible for collecting blood samples from patients, labelling them correctly and sending them off for analysis and testing. Must work well under pressure and be sensitive to concerns and confidentiality of the patient. Makes judgments regarding possible clerical discrepancies and brings them to the attention of a laboratory tech or the Director. Patients serviced include those in the following age groups: infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Provides patient care which is appropriate to patient’s age, diagnosis, symptoms, provider orders, and following established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current American Heart CPR – Healthcare Provider certification
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance
  • Must work well under pressure and be sensitive to concerns and confidentiality of the patient
  • Ability to work with patients of all ages and backgrounds with professionalism and care
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal phlebotomy program
  • phlebotomy experience
  • experience in a laboratory-related field
  • Three years of experience as a phlebotomist
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • One year of lab specimen processing experience
