About The Position

Under the direction of the Technical Supervisor or designee (Tech Specialist or Charge Tech) performs a diversity of clinical laboratory testing and quality control activities in designated areas of assignment. May be assigned as Charge Tech for off-shifts and weekends. Recognizes problems, identifies causes, synthesizes alternatives, and applies solutions. Confirms and verifies results through an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instrumentation. Performs routine and highly complex laboratory analysis on neonatal, pediatric, adult and/or geriatric patients as needed. Must be able to perform specimen collection by venipuncture as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one to three years’ experience as a laboratory technician or technologist in a hospital setting
  • BS or BA in a chemical, biological or physical science or medical Technology training with at least one year of laboratory training or experience, or have previously qualified or could have qualified as a General Supervisor under 42 CFR 493.1461 of the Federal Regulations published March 14, 1990 [55FR 9538] on or before February 28, 1992, or have completed post-secondary education and degree requirements sufficient to obtain certification as described below
  • Meets all training requirements for high complexity testing as defined under 42 CFR Section 493.1489; or 493.1491, of the Federal Regulations
  • MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP); MT (HHS); MT (HEW); CLS (NCA) or equivalent
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all age levels served within the scope of the position/assigned areas
  • Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or other individuals in the workplace, with or without a reasonable accommodation
