Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina, is the smallest of the four Duke Health hospitals at 123-beds, offering a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties. This position involves supervising the work of subordinate personnel in non-analytic areas of the laboratory, including phlebotomy, specimen management, courier services, and send out services.

  • Educational background generally equivalent to a high school education.
  • If the position is in a specimen handling area or send out area, 5 years of experience.
  • If the position is in a courier area, 5 years of experience in transport of materials.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Phlebotomy certification by a nationally recognized organization is required if the position is in a phlebotomy area.
  • A valid NC driver’s license is required for courier area.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the work of subordinate personnel in non-analytic areas of the laboratory to include phlebotomy, specimen management, courier services, send out services.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of subordinate personnel.
  • Supervise and participate, as needed, in the more complex procedures and problem solving within functional area.
  • Provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to students and employees.
  • Participate in the development of new procedures, processes and techniques for collection, handling and/or transport of laboratory specimens.
  • Evaluate and modify workflow patterns and prepare reports outlining appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
  • Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
