Laboratory Supervisor

About the position

The Biology Laboratory Supervisor provides instructional support to biology undergraduate courses. Responsibilities include the preparation and set up of laboratory experiments, preparation of bacterial cultures and media, maintaining the stockroom (including ordering supplies for laboratory experiments), maintaining laboratory equipment, and regulatory compliance records for laboratory safety.

Responsibilities

• Organizing and setting up lab experiments
• Preparing microbiological media, cultures, reagents, and solutions
• Coordinate scientific instructional lab experiments
• Maintain and provide repairs on laboratory equipment
• Clean and restock laboratory
• Prepare purchase orders for equipment
• Perform general clerical work
• Select, train, and supervise student assistants
• Adhere to all state and federal laws relating to chemical and biological hazards, and use as guidelines for policies, and procedures
• Work closely with Hygiene Safety officer with respect to all state and federal laws relating to chemical and biological hazards
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in microbiology/biology OR equivalent education and/or experience
• 1-3 years of previous experience in a biology science laboratory
• Knowledge of operating laboratory equipment and maintaining laboratory and safety records
• Communicate, understand, and carry out both oral and written instruction
• Basic bookkeeping, purchasing, inventory and laboratory safety compliance
