About The Position

As the Laboratory Supervisor you will be responsible for overseeing the facility's laboratory function to ensure that tests are performed accurately, according to regulations and in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (required); degree in chemistry or science-related field (preferred)
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in a laboratory environment (required)
  • Hands-on approach to effectively complete testing, equipment maintenance and training
  • Strong communication skills to effectively and timely communicate details of questionable or hazardous materials to appropriate authorities, respond to incidents, and train other laboratory personnel
  • Chemical knowledge including characteristics, reactions and hazards of substances encountered in the hazardous waste industry
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management (LIM) systems
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory requirements and familiarity with industry trends
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot and conduct maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Supervises the laboratory and laboratory personnel to ensure the accurate, compliant, and productive operations of the department
  • Reviews analytical data to confirm data accuracy and acceptability of material for disposal
  • Provides oversight of the redirection and testing of off-spec materials
  • Coordinates additional testing with third-party laboratories or other service providers as needed
  • Manages the purchases and distribution of departmental operating supplies; ensures adherence to laboratory budget to promote profitability and performs functions to control costs
  • Provides technical expertise as needed to the Operations and Sales teams; supports Sales by ensuring pre-acceptance testing is completed appropriately
  • Supports, maintains and troubleshoots various laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Prepares various reporting as requested by location or organizational leadership
  • Participates in hiring, performance evaluation, promotion and discipline decisions for team members as needed
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
