About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising chemical sampling and all analysis associated with fuel, boilers, feed water, GPP, PWS, ELG, and sulfur dioxide removal systems and preparing associated reports.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in chemistry or related science plus minimum 5 years of experience in related utility and/or industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have leadership qualities necessary to direct subordinates in day-to-day activities.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews test results (water sampling and instrument reading) to ensure that water treatment systems are operating properly, efficiently, and cost effectively.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all required quality tests and reviews test results to ensure all systems are operating properly.
  • Informs plant management of problems found while monitoring water-related systems.
  • Coordinates ordering, delivery, and unloading of anhydrous ammonia
  • Conducts inspections of all water treatment facilities and ensures that they are properly maintained.
  • Provides training to Laboratory staff on a variety of topics to include but not limited to, RCFA, procedural changes, DCS changes, switching, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and technical training.
  • Develops work schedules for laboratory personnel.
  • Maintains records on laboratory operations. Ensures that proper maintenance and calibrations are performed on all laboratory equipment, spare parts and other related materials.
  • Administers the Collective Bargaining Agreement (including representing the Company at the first step of the grievance procedure), Uniform Work Rules, and Absenteeism/Tardiness Policy, etc. Ensures uniform application and consistency.
  • Establishes laboratory goals for effectiveness, efficiency, and cost effectiveness and manages attainment of these goals.
  • Works with outside companies and contractors during acid cleaning, oil flushes, water softening systems, etc.
  • Plans, directs, and controls all laboratory activities so as to provide an accident-free work place and to ensure the safety of plant personnel.
  • Establishes training objectives for the laboratory group. Ensures that all laboratory employees are appropriately trained.
  • Determines employee development needs and provides coaching, career counseling, and developmental opportunities. Provide vision and serve as a role model for leadership throughout the organization. Demonstrates flexibility and commitment toward rotational assignments.
  • Ensures that the laboratory group complies with all governmental regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Ensures that the laboratory group complies with all environmental laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
