This full-time opportunity is in the Microbiology Department of Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL) in Austin, Texas. We are seeking an Microbiology Supervisor to work primarily on first shift (7:30 AM – 3:30 PM) Monday-Friday. In This Role, You Will: Oversee bacteriology, parasitology, mycology, technician, and problem resolution teams, including quality monitoring, competencies, inventory management, and alignment with established procedures and process changes Maintain awareness of the full laboratory workflow to identify and troubleshoot issues, escalating concerns appropriately with proposed solutions Serve as a primary contact for audits and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements Lead validation and integration of new instrumentation to improve laboratory efficiency and testing capabilities Drive recruitment, conduct interviews, and support employee relations in collaboration with the Manager and Human Resources Meet regularly with team members to review goals and progress, complete performance reviews, approve timecards and PTO requests, and lead team meetings Promote team morale and professionalism fostering a collaborative work environment Collaborate with Esoteric Microbiology, Microbiology Processing, and Microbiology Exception Handling leadership to ensure cohesion across teams and shifts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a biological, medical, or laboratory science
  • At least 5 years of experience in a high-complexity clinical microbiology laboratory, including at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Qualified to serve as a General Supervisor as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in operating standard laboratory equipment, including automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and computer systems
  • Commitment to learning new techniques and technologies and supporting continuous professional development
  • This role involves routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Employees are required to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all privacy and security standards. Access to PHI is permitted only when necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in Microbiology or Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent certification
  • Experience serving as a CLIA laboratory technical supervisor or in an equivalent leadership role
