Job Summary Battelle is a world leader in science and technology research. Drug Development and Clinical Programs (DDCP) is a part of the Life Sciences Research and provides laboratory support to the Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS), National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). DDCP is currently seeking a Manager with experience in supervising laboratory-based staff. The position will support Battelle staff working on-site in the Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) at the Chamblee Campus, Atlanta, Georgia . The DLS provides laboratory support for the diagnosis, detection, treatment and prevention of selected chronic and infectious diseases. Battelle staff sit in multiple branches within the division, providing support to the Clinical Chemistry, Emergency Response, Inorganic and Radiation Analytical Toxicology, Nutritional Biomarkers and Tobacco and Volatiles Branches.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Immunology or related field.
  • Years of experience required supervising a staff of at least 10 laboratory-based researchers: BS - 8+ years MS - 6+ years PhD - 6+ years
  • Strong desire to lead teams and participate in open dialogues regarding performing metrics
  • Able to facilitate discussions with regards to exemplary actions/results as well as disciplinary actions as needed.
  • 3+ years' experience with federal government contracting.
  • Strong time management skills required to balance priorities between client and corporate needs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Travel (5% - estimated).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CDC/NCEH
  • Experience in developing and troubleshooting chromatography mass spectrometry-based methods to measure analytes in complex matrices.
  • Experience in sample preparation and maintaining integrity of biological and environmental samples throughout sample collection and handling.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the selection, training, development, and motivation of staff in order to establish and maintain a quality operation with a focus on the needs, goals, and deliverable of the client.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships to ensure communications are open and consistent.
  • Maintain high level of client involvement in order to remain sensitive to client needs and respond in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the establishment of staff goals and objectives of 20-40 staff in line with the contract scope and deliverables and prepare and communicate performance reviews.
  • Interact with Government (CDC) task technical monitors to obtain ongoing performance feedback for Battelle deliverables.
  • Review and provide feedback to monthly reports from staff.
  • Intervene on staff issues to ensure optimal performance and continuity of existing tasks.
  • Contribute to the financial performance of the group, and work with program manager and senior manager to establish budgets and forecasts for business activities.
  • Participate in the monitoring of projects to the extent of insuring that they remain within budget.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies fostered either by Battelle and /or CDC.
  • Integrate upper management decisions into operating policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the compliance with Battelle/CDC policies as they relate to time, attendance, and safety.
  • Conduct Management Safety Observations (MSOs) with all staff on an annual basis.
  • Participate in proposal efforts and marketing of Battelle capabilities on an as needed basis.
