About The Position

The Laboratory Specimen Processor’s primary responsibility is the operation, and organization of the Central Collection department. Foremost among these responsibilities are strictly adhering to detail in the quality/acceptability of specimens received, details in the orders, and insurance status of the patient, performance of laboratory procedures, and solving practical problems. This position operates on the first shift from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with an every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the processing and preparation for delivery of specimens to technical sections within the lab, various reference laboratories, and State Hygienic Labs.
  • Identifies and distinguishes between government and commercial payors in order to release clinic orders from Epic EMR to Sunquest LIS.
  • Transcribe orders and complete payor entry in Epic for UPH At Home and UPH Hospice patient specimens.
  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.
