The Laboratory Specialist provides technical support to ensure the accurate and timely analysis of drinking water samples in the Mesa County Public Health Regional Laboratory. This position is temporary and works on an as-needed basis to provide coverage during periods of planned staff leave. The specialist performs routine laboratory analysis on drinking water samples in compliance with regulatory standards and established protocols. The Laboratory Specialist displays exceptional customer service to respond to water customer needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least 2 years of related experience
  • OR Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job.
  • Proficiency with laboratory and medical software.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to use Google Applications including Gmail and Drive.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze samples utilizing approved water microbiology under State and Federal Regulations.
  • Enter sample data accurately and generate appropriate reports.
  • Interpret laboratory results and communicate results effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Prepare equipment, reagents, and media for testing as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service to promote collaboration within the workplace and community.
  • Provide coverage for full-time staff during planned absences.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
