About The Position

The main purpose of this position is to inspect, assess and evaluate the quality of laboratory services in clinical laboratories, tissue banks and other related facilities for compliance with CLIA and State licensure requirements. The position will conduct on-site surveys of laboratories licensed by the State of Maryland or as required by CMS under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments to ensure compliance with applicable federal laws, regulations and guidelines. The position will prepare reports of findings and will respond to inquiries from laboratories and the public. This position will also participate in CMS-required training and will be subject to monitoring by CMS surveyors. This position requires driving throughout the state in a personal vehicle.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Medical Technology from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience working in a medical or public health laboratory performing diagnostic or public health testing on human specimens.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Science Research Officer classifications or Medical Laboratory Specialists specialty codes in the Science related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
