About The Position

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest laboratory scientist in the Division of Environmental Services, working at our lab office in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. There you are. We’ve been waiting for you. We are looking for an energetic, goal-focused, and determined problem-solver to help our Division of Environmental Services in Central Ohio! As a laboratory scientist, you will perform complex ultra trace chemical and microbiological analysis for environmental contaminants on surface, ground and waste waters, drinking water, air, fish tissue, and sediments. You will use Gallery discrete analyzers, automated titrators, analytical balance, and other various laboratory instrumentation to analyze samples in accordance with methods in 40 CFR Part 136 and 141. You might use GC and GC/MS, ICP, ICP/MS, and Ion chromatography to interpret analytical results and maintain lab records. You will help perform digestions, extractions, concentrations, and cleanups to prepare samples for analysis. You will also use cleavers and grinders to prepare fish tissue samples. You will provide training and daily work to intermittent employees within the same section and implement the laboratory quality assurance program as required by federal regulations and DES QMP and other manuals. Finally, you will provide technical assistance to other Ohio EPA personnel, other laboratories, industries, U.S. EPA, and other agencies regarding lab programs and methodologies. You will also testify in legal proceedings concerning analysis of evidence.

Requirements

  • Completion of undergraduate core coursework in a biological, chemical, natural or physical science; AND 24 mos. pertinent laboratory experience commensurate with job duties to be performed as outlined per approved position description on file.
  • completion of Master of Science core program in a biological, chemical, natural or physical science; AND 12 mos. pertinent laboratory experience commensurate with job duties to be performed as outlined per approved position description on file.
  • 54 mos. pertinent laboratory experience commensurate with job duties to be performed as outlined per approved position description on file.
  • 12 mos. exp. as Laboratory Scientist 2, 83292.
  • equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
