About The Position

The College Counselor at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools is responsible for guiding high school students through the college search and admissions process. This role involves educating students and parents about college options, admissions procedures, and financial aid, while providing personalized counseling and support. The counselor collaborates with school staff and families to foster a supportive community, ensuring students meet application deadlines and develop strong college essays. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of college counseling experience in secondary school preferred.
  • Experience in a selective college admission office preferred.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of students.

Responsibilities

  • Administer all aspects of the college search and admissions process.
  • Educate students and parents about college options and admissions procedures.
  • Provide individual and small group college counseling.
  • Consult with parents regarding their children's academic and personal success.
  • Collaborate with school counselors on developmental issues affecting student performance.
  • Facilitate meetings with college representatives and serve as a liaison to admissions offices.
  • Build and submit all school documents to colleges and scholarship organizations.
  • Write official Secondary and counselor letters of recommendation for each counselee.
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative analysis and board reports with the Director's Office.
  • Maintain legal and ethical standards as specified for school counselors.
