About The Position

The Laboratory Research Technician for the Department of Microbiology will primarily be responsible for organizing and performing animal research studies, which include mouse breeding, genotyping, immunizations, sample collection, and more. The technician will also perform benchtop immunologic assays such as ELISA assays, Western Blots, flow cytometry, multiplex assays, and tissue culture. Additionally, the role involves bacterial culture and protein purification with biochemical characterization, including DNA isolation, recombination and cloning, and SDS-PAGE gels. This work will require teamwork and coordination with other lab members, maintenance of accurate and timely records of experimental procedures and results, and maintaining supply inventories for the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with the principles of biology, preferably microbiology and immunology.
  • Proficient research experiment skills and techniques.
  • Proficient laboratory record keeping and maintenance skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Willingness to work in solo and team environments and multitask during the workday.
  • Bachelor's degree or High School Diploma/Equivalent and 6 years' laboratory research experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a Biological or Chemical Science.
  • Experience in rodent handling and tissue processing.
  • Experience in laboratory techniques such as molecular biology, cloning, cell culture, ELISA, and flow cytometry.
  • Experience in aseptic techniques and culture and maintenance of microbial stocks.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and/or big data management.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing and performing animal research studies including mouse breeding, genotyping, immunizations, and sample collection.

  • Coordinating with other lab members and maintaining supply inventories for the laboratory.
