About The Position

This role is based in our R&D laboratory and is central to our core research operations. You will spend the majority of your time at the bench conducting anaerobic microbiology experiments, preparing formulations, supporting fermentation runs, and operating analytical instruments. You will also play a critical part in developing, optimizing, and transferring laboratory innovations to production. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, detail-oriented scientist who thrives in a fast-paced lab environment, takes ownership of their work, and effectively supports experimental efforts while working both independently and collaboratively across teams. If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply.

Requirements

  • MS degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Fermentation Science, or Chemistry, or A BS in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Fermentation Science, or Chemistry with 3+ years of relevant bench experience.
  • Hands-on experience with anaerobic microbiology techniques required
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with GLP practices and laboratory documentation standards
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future need for visa sponsorship
  • Strong commitment to hands-on laboratory work, with a proactive approach to planning, executing, and troubleshooting experiments.
  • Working knowledge of anaerobic microbiology, with experience in analytical instrumentation and bioprocess development.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple laboratory tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting results, preparing reports, and collaborating with team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while supporting team members and contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • High attention to detail, with a strong commitment to data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with established protocols and standards.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to support changing priorities in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with R&D, production, and quality control teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, with a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with fermentation systems (bench scale) is a strong plus
  • Experience with chromatographic or other analytical instruments (GC, HPLC) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare media and formulations according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), including performing required calculations.
  • Conduct anaerobic microbiology experiments, including dilution plating, colony counting, and microbiological assays; document results, interpret findings, and prepare reports.
  • Apply aseptic techniques for microbial isolation, preservation, and enumeration in accordance with standard methods and scientific instrumentation.
  • Assist in setting up bench-scale fermentation systems and, as needed, independently operate, monitor, and troubleshoot 3–10 L fermenters.
  • Support experimental design, scale-up activities, and the implementation of R&D technologies into production processes.
  • Prepare buffers and appropriate solvents for analytical instruments, including gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (LC) systems.
  • Prepare samples according to SOPs, operate analytical instruments, troubleshoot issues, and compile and document data.
  • Accurately record experimental data using Excel spreadsheets, batch records, and laboratory notebooks/logs.
  • Develop scientific protocols and translate them into standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Follow established protocols while adhering to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Identify out-of-specification results, communicate findings to supervisors, and support investigations and corrective actions.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records to ensure a robust audit trail of R&D activities.
  • Support laboratory organization, housekeeping, and maintenance of equipment, materials, and glassware.
  • Promote a safe work environment, professional conduct, and a positive team culture.
