About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a dynamic and strategic Laboratory Director to lead and oversee clinical laboratory operations across multiple hospitals in the Portland region. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality diagnostic services, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and alignment with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who can effectively engage with senior hospital and lab leadership, drive performance improvement initiatives, and foster a culture of excellence and innovation. Schedule: Day shift, Monday-Friday, other hours as needed, travel required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
  • ASCP or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in clinical laboratory operations.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with senior leadership and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS), data analytics, and performance dashboards.
  • Must reside in the Portland Region or be willing to relocate.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in multi-site hospital systems or integrated health networks
  • Preferred demonstrated success leading change management and strategic initiatives
  • Preferred familiarity with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between hospital executive leadership and laboratory services.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to align lab operations with hospital-wide strategic goals.
  • Represent laboratory services in executive meetings, planning sessions, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Direct daily operations of clinical laboratories, ensuring compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards.
  • Oversee staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation across multiple lab sites.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, analyze, and present key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to senior leadership.
  • Prepare regular reports on lab performance, turnaround times, test volumes, and quality outcomes.
  • Use data-driven insights to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Lead the adoption of best practices in laboratory medicine, including automation, workflow optimization, and digital transformation.
  • Champion initiatives that enhance patient safety, diagnostic accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Mentor and develop laboratory managers and technical staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the laboratory workforce.
