Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Life Sciences, or related field.
  • 4 years of experience in the job offered or in a Laboratory Microbiologist-related occupation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute laboratory testing and validations for sterility of finished product for ETO sterilization processes based on industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain the microbiological support program, as required by industry standards for support of SAL levels and pyrogen claims.
  • Monitor, adjust, create, and validate test methods to ensure they are current and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
  • Investigate anomaly / excursions related to microbiological test results.
  • Train and develop technicians in microbiological techniques.
  • Maintain microbiology databases and ensure the databases are validated where appropriate.
  • Develop, write, execute, and report on studies and validations for microbiology-related projects.
  • Oversee the environmental monitoring program and monitor the corresponding trends for proactive action.
  • Establish specification limits for environmental monitoring program.
  • Perform failure investigations related to Microbiology/Sterilization and directs corrective actions.
  • Actively participate in Johnson & Johnson Microbiology and Sterilization councils.
  • Provide external audit support as Microbiology and Sterilization SME.
  • Direct and lead decision-making for microbiological and sterilization issues plant-wide.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to product development and engineering teams as it relates to the microbiological quality and sterility assurance of the current products.
  • Determine applicable biocompatibility testing requirements for improvement projects and/or changes in materials or applications of existing products or components.
  • Analyze existing systems and procedures, recommend solutions/improvements, and write work instructions/SOPs as needed.
  • Compile and analyze test information using Process Excellence and Lean tools to determine operational efficiency/effectiveness of processes/equipment in order to charter projects that drive continuous improvements within the lab and/or diagnose equipment malfunctions.
