About The Position

We are looking for a self-motivated, research focused individual to join the Barreiro lab as the Laboratory Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Barreiro lab study the genetic and epigenetic basis of inter-individual variation in immune responses and susceptibility to disease. As Lab Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the wet lab, a knowledge resource, and the key to keeping the lab running smoothly. Our lab collaborates with many other research/medical labs and this position is typically the point of contact for our collaborators.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and ensure laboratory compliance to the human subjects (IRB), biosafety (IBC), and animal usage (IACUC) protocols.
  • General laboratory responsibilities including ensuring adherence to safe laboratory practices, proper upkeep of the laboratory environment and equipment, participation in laboratory meetings and functions.
  • Provide logistical support for the smooth running of the lab including ordering, organization, and stocking.
  • Provide administrative support to the principal investigator and to the laboratory for mailing/shipping, organizing events, other tasks as required.
  • Perform experiments to characterize the genetic basis of inter-individual variation in immune responses to infectious agents.
  • Generation of induced pluripotent stem cells, (iPSCs), the derivation of iPSCs into macrophages, the infection of iPSC-derived macrophages with level 2 infectious agents (e.g., Salmonella and flu viruses), and the generation of RNA-seq and ATAC-seq libraries from non-infected and infected cells.
  • Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks.
  • Works independently to assist with project design.
  • Solves complex problems relating to the administration of projects, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making significant contributions to methodology.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
