About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of a certified laboratory professional performs laboratory testing, including waived, moderate and high complexity, as allowed by position scope. The Laboratory intern will comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and established procedures governing clinical laboratories. Works with the Medical Technologist (MT/MLS), utilizes judgment and knowledge to implement new procedures or methods, educate others, and improve systems. Collaborates with all members of the health care team to provide quality patient care and exceptional customer service. Here is What You Will Be Doing: Organizes and performs laboratory testing in lab areas that are assigned and in which employee is determined competent and within scope of practice. Determines the reliability of analytical data before it can be released for patient diagnosis or monitoring. Recognizes abnormal results or unusual circumstances and takes appropriate action. Obtains appropriate approval prior to releasing results. Assures quality results through the use and evaluation of control materials, proper instrument maintenance, proper daily documentation and collection and analysis of appropriate samples. Utilizes available resources to maintain and fix instrumentation or troubleshoots issues in collaboration with the Medical Technologist. Utilizes Laboratory Information System (LIS) and network appropriately and efficiently. Interns must be actively monitored by a certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Scientist (MLS) at all times. I understand that it is not within my scope of practice to handle any medications that I might inadvertently come in contact with, including medications delivered in the pneumatic tube system. If I do come in contact with medications I know to alert a licensed employee for them to handle. Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology/Science program
  • Ability to positively interact with persons of different ethnic, spiritual, moral and cultural beliefs
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow all policies and procedures, as defined for the organization and department
  • Exhibits effective decision-making skills as appropriate
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
  • One Year: MLT or MLS/MT certification within one (1) year of start date
